How To Apply
|
SECURE YOUR FUTURE WITH THE MOST POWERFUL "CORPORATION" OF OUR TIME:
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
How to apply has been one of the greatest mysteries to plague mankind, but not any more. Many government agencies have branch offices throughout the country and throughout the world. Choose a career field, such as Medical, Electronics, Computers, Administrative, ect. from the list included with this package. Choose an agency or several agencies in which you are interested in working for. Choose geographical area(s) of interest. Either contact the agency headquarters in Washington DC or: dial the area code(s) of the areas of interest +555-1212 and request the phone number of the agency's regional/ district office or: look in the blue sheets of your local phone directory. Ask for Human Resources. When you contact the office, inquire about any programs that you may be qualified for such as Veteran's programs, Student programs, Disability programs, ect.. Request the mailing address for your application and also the name of an individual to address it to. Federal agencies currently except three types of written applications; the SF-171, OF-612, and Resumes. See the "Do's and Don'ts" sheet for more details on these forms.
Don't limit yourself. You can apply to work anywhere in the country and in many areas out of the country! Uncle Sam has positions in every state to include Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. If this is still to close to home you can always work in the Virgin Islands, Singapore, or Europe. The list goes on and on. It is highly advisable that you apply for several places concurrently.
Have you ever heard that famous saying; "It's not what you know. It's who you know." ? Well, that is NOT always the case. You see, what you know can be greatly enhanced by who you know when it comes to applying for a federal job. Search your cranial data base for anyone that you have ever encountered that may currently be a government employee. Relatives are always a plus. Friends, acquaintances, and old school mates may also hold a key to that mystical door for you. Keep in mind that the average person really feels good about themselves when they help someone else, especially if it's someone that they know even in the most remote way. What if you've dug through the oldest box in your possession that was hidden in the darkest corner of your attic and still can't find anyone that fits the bill? Simple. Ask if anyone that you know knows anyone who does hold the coveted FG position. If so, ask for a referral. Remember what they say; "any friend of yours is always a friend of mine."
